There seems to be some confusion in the motoring public as to what is required when a driver approaches a railroad crossing.
The railroad crossbuck is the same as a yield sign. A motorist must approach the crossing in a manner so that if a train is approaching the grade crossing within a distance that could be hazardous to the motorist, he must stop his vehicle safely before entering the crossing.

A railroad grade crossing signal with flashing lights only (no gates) is the same as a stop sign. If the lights are flashing, the motorist must come to a complete stop prior to crossing the railroad. If an approaching train is a safe distance away, the motorist may proceed across the tracks. Otherwise he must remain stopped until it is safe to proceed.

A railroad grade crossing with crossing gates in the lowered position is the same as a red traffic light. The motorist must stop and remain stopped until the gates are raised.
Surviving Mississippi Railroad Stations
The Warrington's Ridge Model Railroad...construction has finally begun!
As you can see by the hammer in the photo the operation to make ready the right-of-way and construction of the platforms has begun. We did lay some test track to kind of get an idea of which direction to take this railroad.
Building materials are in place to build the next phase of the railroad. The track will run along the same path the old Dover Central Railroad once occupied. The Dover Central was an N-scale layout that I built years ago. If you look close enoughyou can see the tunnel through the living room wall that is the only sign of the old railroad's existance. This tunnel will have to be expanded to allow the HO-scale trains to fit through it.
I guess you can say that I am just a big over grown kid myself, but I am ready for trains to be running now. Of course you have to have track laid and track don't just float in the air. So we have to do the carpentry work to set the track on. We have one more short section to tie in two of the longer sections and the platform in the living room will be finished.
If you anything like me, this is of no use for you to look at if you don't get to see any trains.. So we did set up some track and have some cars on the track for true train lovers to look at.
We don't have enought room for an oval, so we will mainly have a bench type set up. With the living room being the main yard and the second room being the industry area being served. We'll see how that works out.
The big problem as you can see is we still have cars in boxes waiting for room on the rail for them. So I am just as anxious as you are to get the freight to rolling!
So besure to check us out regularly to see what we've done lately on here. We'll be taking you through each step of the way as we begin the step by step process of building the Warrington's Ridge Model Railroad. You get to experience the planning and building process and the stories behind some of the trains we have. And it don't cost you nuthin'! You aint gotta buy no $6 dollar magazine. Just join us here at Warrington's Ridge to get the latest news.
Stay tuned!

Where the Southern Crosses the Yellow Dog
By Bro. Glenn Warrington This is located in Moorehead, Mississippi not far from Highway 82 between Itta Bena and Indianola.
The sign reads:
At the start of the twentieth century, the rail crossing once located nearby was an important land transportation point. The junction of the Southern Railroad and the Yazoo Delta Railroad (the "Yellow Dog") was established in 1897. For decades it was the central Delta's major rail link, making Moorehead one of the region's most active passenger and freight connections. The crossing gained national fame in 1914 with W.C. Handy's seminal blues song "The Yellow Dog Rag".Me and the Hillbilly Brigade took ourselves a weekend trip up to Moorehead to visit this sight. Here are some pictures, click to enlarge:
As you look at the sign from this angle you are facing what would have been the Yazoo Delta Railroad headed Southbound back towards Yazoo City. The next photo is a wider view where you can see the old crossing which has now been concreted and has benches surrounded by crete myrtles. Don't know if that's the right spelling of the plants, please feel free to correct me as needed. The crete myrtles as I spell 'em remind me of Grandmother's in her yard over on Petershill.
Now as you face the sign and do an about face you will be looking northbound on the line that would take you through Sunflower, Mississippi up to Clarksdale.
This picture is looking East towards Greenwood, Ms.
The line is currently the Columbus and Greenville Railroad.
Here you are looking westbound towards Indianola and Greenville.
I like the pavillion and the area is well kept. If you got some time take a trip up to Moorehead, Mississippi. Who knows? Maybe you'll catch an old freight train pokin' through this spot dedicated to the preservation of Mississippi's Railrod and Blues Music History.
